Spring 2010
The most important thing to know about me is that I have always loved crafts, all kinds, but that I came to knitting much later in my life. It was only in 2001 that my Grandma “Babe” taught me how to cast on and how to do the basic knit stitch-- how could I possibly know how everything would take off from there? Looking back, I am so glad she was the one who introduced me to this world that has become such a central part of my life (and I know she is proud of me, too).
By 2003, my passion for knitting had continued to grow by leaps and bounds. In fact, that was the year (at the age of 26 with a one-year old baby on my hip) I took an enormous leap and opened what has blossomed into a very popular Toronto knitting shop: Lettuce Knit.
Now in our fifth year, that giant leap of faith has resulted in a beautiful life as my husband and I, together with our three children, live above the shop; for me, knitting has become a lifestyle.
As you can imagine, one of my greatest joys is to teach others how to knit and to see how the act of knitting enriches their life both in the immediate moment and over time as their knitting skills develop and they explore new creative ventures.
Knitting has brought so much to my life: a means to support my family, a way to foster community and make good friends, as well as warmth, comfort, and of course, endless hours of sweet, creative fun.
