Kate is Knitty’s Managing Technical Editor, and a seasoned designer in her own right.
Armed with a degree in Mathematics and training in Fashion Design, she brings a unique perspective and set of skills to the knitting world. With more than 10 years’ experience as a knitting teacher, she knows what works and what doesn’t. In particular, she knows that not everyone loves doing the math, and therefore specializes in helping knitters avoid it where possible.
Kate teaches knitting regularly across North America and is also the author of Beyond Knit and Purl, Knit Accessories: Essential and Variations. She contributes regularly to knitting books and magazines, including Interweave’s Sockupied. Her latest book, Custom Socks: Knit to Feet Your Feet has been described as a “master class on sock knitting”.
Kate also tries to make sock knitters wherever she goes, is already at work on her next book – this time focusing on mittens and gloves, and blogs about her thoughts on knitting here. She lives in Toronto with her husband and their challenging but (mostly) adorable rescue hound, Dexter. To see more of her work, visit her website below. You can also find her on Twitter and Ravelry as kateatherley.
