Born in Seoul, South Korea and currently making her home in Baltimore, Maryland, Rosa is an artist, writer, and gardener. She is committed to sustaining a harmonious balance between humans and the natural world.
Rosa’s art draws inspiration from natural materials and environments, manifested in various forms, mediums, and scales. Currently her interest is sharing Korean/Asian traditional Indigo & Natural Dye processes and its culture with different communities as cultural exchanges.
Rosa works directly with Kenya Miles on the Blue Light Junction, a heritage project focused on growing, processing and preserving natural dyes through their histories, traditions, enhancements and use in everyday objects. Operating within Blue Light Junction is The Alternative Color Lab, a natural dye processing center, Hidden Harvest “annex” dye garden & an educational facility. In the Spring of 2019 Hidden Harvests’ “annex” garden became the site of an experimental dye garden led by Rosa Chang and Kenya Miles as Artists In Residence at M.I.C.A. in association with the Baltimore Natural Dye Initiative.
Rosa’s book My Indigo World was named in the list of Best Books of 2023 by the New York Public Library.
