Tierney Barden is a textile artist and natural dyer in upstate NY. When she’s not stitching, she’s happily making progress on personal pieces such as hand stitched garments and quilts. Having earned her BFA with a concentration in drawing and painting, Tierney brings her painterly style, love of pattern and storytelling to her work.
Learning the ancient art of shibori dyeing at Arrowmont in 2006 was Tierney’s first exposure to hand dying fabric. From there, she went on to make her first art quilt which was shown in the 2008 Quilts=Art=Quilts juried exhibit. She has been published in Quilting Arts Holiday Gifts Magazine 2013 and 2014. Teaching and speaking venues have included Squam Art Workshops, Cinch Art Space and area quilt groups.
You can usually find Tierney nestled in her studio surrounded by beeswax candles, children’s books and colorful spools of thread. Today, she teaches, as well as sells her fabrics, quilts & patterns on her website tierneybarden.com.
“Each quilt whispers a story, and it’s my pleasure to coax it to the surface with needle and thread.”
