The Transformative Stitch
Taught by:
Rosa ChangOffered:

FULL / CLOSED
Friday, September 5th
FULL / CLOSED
Experience level: all levels
In this lovely workshop with textile artist Rosa Chang, you will be provided with a number of opportunities to explore the rich resources of old garments:
- either you will be mending what was,
- or deconstructing the piece and stitching it into something altogether new.
- Of course, if time permits, you might dabble a bit in both options.
Rosa will be sharing her love of Bojagi (traditional Korean patchwork) and Japanese sashiko both of which nurture the fundamental meditative nature of slow stitching.
After demonstrating and providing samples of different mending processes, students will begin by either taking apart a piece of clothing and working with the elements from that deconstruction or, settling in to repair a beloved object of clothing. There will be ample room for personal approaches to make each piece unique.
Another plus of this class is that students will have access to some sumptuous indigo dyed fabrics and thread made in Rosa’s beautiful studio.
All along the way Rosa will provide hands-on instruction and make suggestions about the different mending options available for any given situation such as the differences in healing big holes versus small holes, for example.
This course is also open to any artistic or meditative stitching approaches during the session.
