A Story in Stitch

Experience level: All levels
We all have stories to tell, dreams to share; be they from the past, present, or future. We all have places in the world that are most special, most sacred to our heart.
In this workshop, we will begin with a bit of journaling to capture thoughts and ideas about what is resonating most for us at this time. What is a time and place, or perhaps an event or experience that is deeply meaningful to us—something we want to record through stitching?
Yes, we will begin bringing our stories to life using needle and thread, however, that is only the jumping off point. There are so many ways to personalize and shape this visual narrative.
A short list of what we will be doing (but there’s much more):
- print and stamp images onto cloth
- audition different stitches and stitch patterns
- play around with color combinations
- explore a range of fibers
- layer fabrics to elevate our story with texture and color
Obviously, we won’t be completing this piece in a single class, but when we close out the day, each of us will have beautiful, hand-stitched journal that evokes something personal and important—something we will continue to add to in the days, weeks and months ahead.
Don’t be surprised if you find you are creating something that will be treasured by generations to come.
