Pattern play is a printmaking workshop created to introduce you to hand-made surface design. We’ll be exploring the process of making our own linoleum block prints – from initial sketch ideas, learning simple carving techniques, and then printing on paper and cloth – this class is designed for any skill level.
To gather inspiration for our design, we will be heading outside to take in the shapes and beauty provided by the botanicals around Squam lake. And we can also dream up our own designs for a tile-inspired pattern. Penelope will provide examples of tiles. The choice is yours!
We’ll then head inside to do our sketches on paper, learn how to transfer the sketches to the linoleum, and carve the designs remembering to consider positive and negative space. And finally, we will print on paper to make one-of-kind, unique block prints, and on cloth to explore how the technique applies to textiles.
